Automation stop rule

When should a small business automation stop?

An automation should fail closed when data, authority, system state, volume, or output leaves the approved boundary, and a named person should review before restart.

OPERATING POINTS

What the concept requires

  • Define prohibited inputs and maximum impact.
  • Stop on missing records, duplicate actions, unusual volume, or failed reconciliation.
  • Keep a manual path and a restart checklist.
LIMITS

What the concept does not prove

  • A stop rule is not effective unless failures are observable and someone responds.
  • Automated recovery can compound errors when the cause is unknown.
